Roger Shuder, 82, was transported to the Parkview Regional Medical Center by helicopter following a collision between his John Deere 4030 and another vehicle on U.S. 6 at approximately 3 p.m. last Thursday afternoon about two miles north of Syracuse.
Shuder, of Syracuse, and 36-year-old Colton Dutoit of Orland were both traveling east bound on U.S. 6, when Dutoit, in a 2007 Kenworth, attempted to pass Shuder, who was driving on the side of the road. However, as Dutoit was attempting the pass, Shuder was turning left to go north on C.R. 43. Dutoit collided with Shuder's tractor, ejecting him from his seat.
Shuder suffered lacerations on his head and was airlifted to the hospital. Dutoit was not injured. No updates were available at press time.
The tractor sustained damages all over, and the Kenworth was damaged on the front end and passenger side. The investigating officer is patrolman Philip Danley of the Elkhart County Sheriff's Dept.
In addition to the Elkhart County Sheriff's Dept., the Turkey Creek Fire Territory out of Syracuse also responded to the scene.
