Burns Harbor Export Facility Reopens
Published: Friday, October 9, 2026
Louis Dreyfus Co.'s grain terminal in Burns Harbor is now operational and receiving soybeans, corn and wheat from local producers. A ribbon cutting was recently held to mark the terminal's re-opening.
The new terminal provides Midwest farmers with an additional bid and delivery point, creating new marketing opportunities for their grain.
Located on the southern shore of Lake Michigan, Burns Harbor combines multimodal (truck, rail, barge and vessel) transportation in one location, connecting Midwest grain production with domestic and international markets. The facility has 11 commercial and operational employees.
Its location within the Great Lakes transportation system provides access to the St. Lawrence Seaway, inland waterways, major highways and rail networks serving the greater Chicago network.
The terminal, with a 7.2-million-bushel grain storage capacity, strengthens LDC's grain origination capabilities in the Midwest and adds a strategically located facility to the company's North American operating network, supporting efficient movement of crops from farm to market.
The opening returns a longstanding Midwest grain export facility to active service and reflects LDC's continued investment in Indiana agriculture and regional supply chains.
