NW FFA Competes at Regionals, State, to Serve Snacks

On Sept. 10 four high school teams and two junior teams competed at the Northwest Regional Livestock Skill-A-Thon Contest. Members showed off their knowledge of beef, swine, sheep and goats through individual portions that included meat, breed, feed and tool identification. Following this section of the contest members took two written tests.

Of the teams that competed we had two senior teams and one junior team move onto state on Oct. 3. One team included Ella Haseley, Brynlee Penrose, Avery Hess and Karlie Umbaugh. The second team included Elijah Hertsel, Parker Yoder, Nola Penrose and Cora Knisley.

The junior team consisted of Caroline Croner, Wyatt Brown and Amelia Zahner.

On Oct. 14 Northwood FFA will be delivering farmers snacks for their yearly Snacks in the Stalks. Members will deliver a bag of snacks and drinks to local farmers to show the support our chapter has for farmers' dedication in the fields. If interested in having a snack delivered to from the chapter, scan the QR Code given to RSVP. On Sept. 27 a team of four individuals from the NorthWood FFA livestock judging team competed at the Aksarben Stock Show in Grand Island, Neb. The team consisted of Ella Haseley, Presley Zehring, Avery Hess and Elijah Hertsel. As a team, they finished 18th overall and were eighth overall in reasons.

The team left on Wednesday Sept. 23 to stop at various livestock producers and industry leader's farms where they had the opportunity to see high-quality livestock. They also had the opportunity to practice beforehand at Iowa State and the University of Nebraska - Lincoln.
