McKnight Earns Big $$ in Logansport

Tyler McKnight opened festivities at the Cass County 4-H Livestock Auction last Friday evening in his hometown of Logansport with the sale of his grand champion beef animal, which raked in a whopping $11,325.01 from supporters (see list at end of story). That comes out to $8.84 per pound for the 1,280-pound bovuie.
In all, the 2026 auction raised $256,684.72 for 176 lots. That's up from the 2025 auction total of $234,152.91 for 177 lots. Subtotals by species include: 11 beef, $25,525.01; 80 swine, $88,385; eight sheep, $6,750; six dairy feeder calves sold for $5,825.01; one lot of dairy goat products, $1,750; 27 dairy goats, $21,050.01; 10 meat goats, $9,808.33; two Myotonic goats, $825; 17 poultry animals, $13,960; two rabbits, $2,800.
Special lots included the "Best of Cass County" basket, sold for $700 to Brad Scott Memorial Signs, $1,300, Bake-A-Rama cookies, $4,400, llama item, $300; and the Miss Cass County queen's kiss, $1,325.
In rabbits, Chase Farrer of Royal Center showed the top meat pen, and turned it for a record-breaking $2,250 from a group of supporters. The buyers included: Farrer Seed and Feed LLC, Oak Ridge Farms, Ag Law Attorney's of Schwartz Law Office, Double Dump, Fisher Funeral Chapel, Steve and Terry Farrer, McWherter Farms, Aaron and Tori Wagoner, Indiana Dimension Inc., Deichman Excavating, Cass County Republicans, Tom and Mindy Shaw, Everett Liggett and family and Fluid Technologies.
Jack and Judy Berlet purchased the reserve champion meat pen, exhibited by Samuel Vandeburg of Walton. They paid $550.
The hog sale kicked off with Hudson Bell's grand champion barrow. It sold to a group of buyers (see list) who paid $4,750 to the Galveston youth. The barrow weighed in at 289 pounds, earning a total of $16.43 per pound.
Eli Teague of Logansport showed the grand champion dairy wether. A dozen and a half buyers came together in a winning bid of $2,525 for the goat (see list). A group of 22 buyers (see list) gathered at the auction to support reserve champion exhibitor Kyle Kranz, also of Logansport. They paid $1,360.01 for the dairy wether.
Logansport's Makenna Franklin exhibited the grand champion meat goat. She gained $1,200 from buyers Eric and Andrea Bridge, C&F Grain, Aaron and Tori Wagoner, Deichman Excavating, Indiana Dimension Inc., Travis and Kirstin Bell, Oak Ridge Farms, Kevin Scott & Sons bulldozing and Excavating, Mennen Livestock, and Eric and Lynnsey Bell.
Benjamin Adams of Royal Center raked in $1,750 for a basket of goat's milk products from his grand champion milking doe. Supporters included: Collins Parts and Supply Inc./NAPA Auto, Small's Electric, Cass County Animal Hospital, Community State Bank, Jim Kitchell Insurance Agency, Maple Family Dentistry, Beacon Credit Union—West, The Carving Knife, Dough Jo's, JK Honey Bee Farms, Westover Farms, Cass County Tire, Chip, Paige and Claire Woodhouse, Tony Courtney/Nutrien, Beacon Credit Union—East, Keystone Coop Clymers and Chapel View Farm.
The reserve champion Myotonic goat was shown by Levi Bell of Logansport. It sold to Todd and Sherri Gehlhausen, Bullshippers, Albaugh family and Kayla and Matt Gibson family for $400.
Not selling were the reserve champion beef animal, exhibited by Alexis Farrer; the grand and reserve champion dairy steers, shown by Natalie and Vincent Warner, respectively; the grand and reserve champion lambs, shown by Nora Guy and Matthew Minnick, respectively; the reserve champion barrow, exhibited by Tessa Criswell; the reserve champion meat wether, shown by Lane Holecomb; the grand champion Myotonic wether, shown by Cole Hopper; and the grand and reserve best of show poultry animals, shown by Leah Ziegler and Carolyn Wecht, respectively.
