Farmers, educators and agricultural professionals interested in organic production systems are invited to attend the Northern Indiana Organic Field Day on Aug. 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will be hosted by the Martin family at IMS Dairy, northeast of Nappanee and is organized in partnership with the Indiana Organic Network and Purdue Extension.
The program will bring together researchers, producers and industry professionals to share practical insights on organic crop and livestock production, with a focus on real-world field applications.
The morning program will begin with registration and welcome remarks at 8:30 a.m., followed by a series of educational presentations: Eugene Law, Ohio State University—non-tillage methods for weed control in organic grain; and Jan Gawthrop, calf care—cow/calf health in organic systems.
A panel discussion and Q&A session moderated by Purdue Extension staff will follow, offering participants the opportunity to engage directly with speakers and producers.
In the afternoon, after lunch which will be provided, attendees will participate in a pasture walk and field demonstration hosted by IMS Dairy, showcasing organic management practices in a working dairy system.
