$150,000 Raised at Miami 4-H Fair

The Miami County 4-H Fair Auction was held on June 27 in Peru, with several reserve champion exhibitors earning high dollars in the sale. Grand champion results, with photos, are in the July 3 issue of The Farmer's Exchange.
Layne Miller, of Kokomo, sold his 1,145-pound reserve champion beef steer to buyers (see list at end of story) for $2.88 per pound ($3,305). A youth from Peru, Madison Munsell, earned $405 from buyers with her reserve champion dairy goat (see list). Rylan Schipper, of Roann, exchanged his reserve champion's gallon of milk for $1,335 from 21 supporters (see list).
Alden Hopper, of Macy, earned $$3,525 for his 267-pound reserve champion barrow. It sold to a group of buyers (see list).
Four dairy feeder steers were auctioned on Saturday, earning a total of $11,309.37. In the beef sale, four steers sold, totaling $17,365. One rabbit earned $300. A total of $11,575 was earned by 22 poultry animals, $14,385 by 13 goats, $3,525 by two lots of goat's milk; 2,435 by two lots of sheep; and $8,740 by eight lots of cow's milk. Fifty-four lots of swine brought in $81,350.
In total the 2026 Miami County 4-H Fair auction raised $150,984 for 110 lots. Last year, 109 lots generated $138,852. A total of $4,000 was donated to the Sara Herrell Memorial Scholarship, and 26 hogs were donated to Helping Hands Pantry and Macy Food Pantry.

Poultry: Grand Champion Poultry was exhibited by Delight Pier, with Reserve Grand Champion Poultry exhibited by Addalynn Bradshaw. Grand Champion Turkey was exhibited by Dave Richardson, with Reserve Grand Champion Turkey exhibited by Isabella Ramer. Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Meat Birds, as well as Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Waterfowl, will be added once the superintendent provides the information.
Sheep: Grand Champion Ewe was exhibited by Levi Merritt, with Reserve Grand Champion Ewe exhibited by Meggan Starkey. Grand Champion Market Wether was exhibited by Levi Merritt, while Reserve Grand Champion Market Wether was exhibited by Hannah Early.
Swine: Hannah Early earned both Grand Champion Barrow and Grand Champion Gilt honors. Reserve Grand Champion Barrow was exhibited by Alden Hopper, and Reserve Grand Champion Gilt was exhibited by Aubrey Clark.
Beef: Grand Champion Beef Steer was exhibited by Kayden Donaldson, with Reserve Grand Champion Beef Steer exhibited by Layne Miller. Grand Champion Beef Heifer was exhibited by Chloe Jordan, with Reserve Grand Champion Beef Heifer exhibited by Maely Hopper. Grand Champion Beef Feeder was exhibited by Aubrey Clark, with Reserve Grand Champion Beef Feeder exhibited by Alden Hopper. Grand Champion Cow/Calf was exhibited by Alden Hopper, with Reserve Grand Champion Cow/Calf exhibited by Rylan Schipper.
In the dairy beef divisions, Taylor Starkey exhibited the Grand Champion Dairy Steer, with Alex Weaver exhibiting the Reserve Grand Champion Dairy Steer. Alex Weaver also exhibited the Grand Champion Beef/Dairy Steer, while Rylan Schipper exhibited the Reserve Grand Champion Beef/Dairy Steer. Colt Myers exhibited the Grand Champion Dairy Feeder Steer, with Alex Weaver exhibiting the Reserve Grand Champion Dairy Feeder Steer. Alex Weaver also exhibited the Grand Champion Beef/Dairy Feeder, while Jesse Weaver exhibited the Reserve Grand Champion Beef/Dairy Feeder.
Dairy: Jesse Weaver earned the title of Supreme Champion, with Rylan Schipper named Reserve Supreme Champion.
Goats: Aubrey Clark exhibited the Grand Champion Meat Type Doe, with Kennedy McGaughey exhibiting the Reserve Grand Champion Meat Type Doe. Alyssa Peterson exhibited the Grand Champion Meat Type Wether, with Wyatt Smith exhibiting the Reserve Grand Champion Meat Type Wether. Kennedy McGaughey exhibited the Grand Champion Wether Dam, while Wyatt Smith earned Reserve Grand Champion Wether Dam. Hannah Early exhibited the Grand Champion Dairy Junior Doe and also the Reserve Grand Champion Dairy Junior Doe. Rylan Schipper exhibited both the Grand Champion Dairy Senior Doe and the Reserve Grand Champion Dairy Senior Doe. A.J. Jordan exhibited the Grand Champion Dairy Market Wether, with Madison Munsell exhibiting the Reserve Grand Champion Dairy Market Wether.
Rabbits: Chloe Carter exhibited the Grand Champion Meat Pen, with Addison Tinney exhibiting the Reserve Grand Champion Meat Pen. Delilah Hollarman exhibited the Grand Champion Fryer, while Chloe Carter exhibited the Reserve Grand Champion Fryer. Kialanni Roush earned Best in Show.
