As the calendar approaches June, it won't be too long until the sounds of antique tractors and steam engines can be heard echoing through the countryside.

Antique power shows are a part of the fairs and festivals season, and there is no shortage of events on the calendar.

First up is the Kosciusko County Freedom Fest, an event celebrating America's 250th birthday, scheduled for June 5-7 at the Kosciusko County Fairgrounds in Warsaw. The Echoes of the Past tractor club will host an antique tractor show and demonstrations. They will also run a sawmill and serve tractor-driven homemade ice cream. Admission is free.

Also in June is the Fulton County Historical Power Show on June 19-20 at the Historical Society Grounds north of Rochester off U.S. 31. Activities include hit-miss engines, garden tractors, toy show, antique tractor pulls, kids games and featured farm equipment. The event begins with a tractor parade on Thursday at 5 p.m. Admission is free.

Not too far from Michiana is the 81st National Threshers Reunion, scheduled for June 25-28 at the Fulton County Fairgrounds in Wauseon, Ohio. For more information, visit www.nationalthreshers.com.

The Noble County Gas & Steam Assn. has a full slate of activities planned for this summer. Highlights include the Chain of Lakes Festival parade on June 6 and the club's annual power show in July during the Noble County Fair in Kendallville. In September, several club members will participate in the annual Mackinac Bridge Crossing in Michigan and the Albion Harvest Festival.

Echoes of the Past will have a tractor show and serve homemade ice cream during the Kosciusko County Fair, July 12-18 in Warsaw. The club will also hold a free community event, scheduled for July 31 and Aug. 1 at 6840 S. County Farm Rd. in Claypool. Highlights include antique and vintage tractor displays, a tractor pull, food vendors, live entertainment and family-friendly activities.

The Northern Indiana Power from the Past will hold its annual summer show July 16-19 at the Winamac Town Park in Winamac. This year's featured tractors are Oliver and Hart-Parr.

The Northern Indiana Johnny Poppers will have a tractor show during the Elkhart County 4-H Fair, July 24-Aug. 1 in Goshen. The tractors will participate in the fair parade on Sunday, July 26 and also on the tractor pulls on July 29-30.

In August, there are two big events on the calendar. The first is the 44th annual Northeast Indiana Steam & Gas Show on Aug. 13-15 at the LaGrange County 4-H Fairgrounds in LaGrange. This year's show will feature International Harvester equipment.

On Aug. 26-29, the Tri-State Gas Engine and Tractor Assn. will hold its 61st annual Antique Engine and Tractor Show. Activities will be held at the Jay County Fairgrounds in Portland, Ind. This year's featured tractors are International Harvesters and Indiana Engines.

The Nappanee Power from the Past is preparing for its annual Antique Tractor & Steam Show, held during the Nappanee Apple Festival in September.
