INFB Launches Youth Mentorship

Published: Friday, April 10, 2026

Applications are open for Indiana Farm Bureau's new program for youth leadership development called GenConnect that is set to kick off in June.

This exclusive six-month program will pair ten high school students with seasoned Farm Bureau member professionals to foster meaningful connections, develop leadership skills, and honor agricultural traditions while embracing new ideas and evolving technologies.

"We have great youth programing in our state with 4-H and FFA," said Annie Romine, INFB youth engagement coordinator. "But GenConnect will allow youth to start their personal journey with Indiana Farm Bureau at a younger age."

The program will include three in-person workshops, one virtual connection point, an optional service opportunity and a capstone project where participants will explore the foundations of agricultural success, work ethic, stewardship and community engagement while gaining exposure to modern agricultural practices and forward-thinking solutions.

Current high school freshmen, sophomores and juniors who may still be discovering their leadership voice may apply beginning today through April 30. Ten youth participants will be accepted into the program. Once youth participants are selected, INFB members from their home county (or surrounding counties) will be recommended by INFB field staff for mentor pairing.

"Besides the desire to introduce Indiana Farm Bureau to youth during high school, I am equally excited about the opportunity this program provides for the mentors," said Romine. "We often hear from members who are looking for their place in Farm Bureau. Maybe they've held a leadership position within the Young Farmers and Ag Professionals (YF&AP) program or have aged out of YF&AP and there aren't current opportunities for leadership on their boards.

Being a mentor with GenConnect is the perfect opportunity for these members to intentionally engage with Indiana Farm Bureau and mentor the next generation of Farm Bureau leaders."

The application and more information can be found at infb.org/youth. The deadline to apply is April 30.
