Elkhart County Extension honored longtime volunteer Penny Stroup and Crop Tech Inc. as Friends of Extension last Tuesday in Goshen.
Stroup, of Bristol, has supported Extension endeavors for 45 years as a 4-H volunteer, Master Gardener and former Extension Homemaker. As a gold-level Master Gardener, she has volunteered over 1,200 hours of service and has served on numerous committees within the Master Gardener organization as well as 4-H Corp.
Crop Tech Inc., of Millersburg, was the second recipient. They have supported Extension through two generations of family ownership, have hosted multiple private applicator trainings and provided sponsorship of the Extension board's annual meeting.
There were 76 people in attendance at the Elkhart County Extension board annual meeting. In addition to honoring the "Friend of Extension," the board also recognized retiring board members, elected new board members by the Extension Advisory Council, and highlighted program impact and accomplishments from the Purdue Extension educators.
The Elkhart County Extension Council members are appointed leaders who elect board members to the 15-member board. Reelected for a second term were board members Don Prough, Goshen, and Dr. Emilie Bough, Middlebury. Elected to her first term on the Extension board is Lauren Hickok, Goshen.
Retiring from the Extension board after six years of service are Dr. Craig Yoder, Goshen, and Gloria Moser, Nappanee.
