A Person You Should Know
Brian Shuter of Frankton, Ind. is in his first year as the executive leader of the Indiana Beef Cattle Assn. As this week's "Person You Should Know," he has much experience in 4-H, FFA and county fairs.
Family: I have been married to my wife, Sarah, for 20 years. We met at Purdue. My son, Jacob, is 16 and loves to drive tractors and the combine and participates in 4-H and FFA. He is on the school trap shooting team. My daughter, Carly, is 14 and likes to run and play basketball and loves all animals. She enjoys exhibiting cattle on the national level and shows multiple species at the county fair.
My Job: I am currently serving as the executive vice president of the Indiana Beef Cattle Assn.
My mentor: My grandfather, Mervin Shuter, and my father, Mike Shuter, are both my mentors. I developed my interest for cattle through my grandfather and my interest in getting involved and being an advocate from my father. Both of my mentors were active in many organizations at the local, state and national levels.
My mission in life: Raise a good family and help my kids to grow into becoming successful people.
How I give back: I am involved on the Madison County 4-H Fair board as a volunteer and help manage the Hoosier Beef Congress and the cattle show at the Indiana State Fair.
Hobbies: Showing cattle. My family would say playing musical corrals with our family's cow herd.
If I Could Do Something Else: Be a cowboy on a big ranch out west.
