Mich. Corn Harvest 86% Complete

The following is from the Michigan Field Office of USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service for the week ending Nov. 20.
Several lasting snow events across the State have brought fieldwork to a halt. There were 3.1 days suitable for fieldwork.
According to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor, counties in the Eastern and South Central Lower Peninsula were reported as abnormally dry. Counties along Lake Huron in the Southeast and Thumb Region continued to experience moderate drought.
Corn producers reported there was plenty of corn for grain left to be harvested, but harvest progress slowed as snow remained; moisture content at harvest was reported as 18%.
Winter wheat emergence progressed ahead of its 5-year average and remained in good to fair condition; growth and development of wheat and other cover crops were at a standstill due to the cold weather.
Soybean harvest was nearly complete, with reporters indicating only few scattered acres remained unharvested.
Sugarbeet harvest wrapped up with the changing weather.
Other activities during the week included fall tillage where conditions allowed, hauling manure and prepping for winter.
The crop progress schedule (last week, previous week, 2021 and 5-year average) showed: corn harvested for grain, 86, 78, 84, 75; winter wheat emerged, 98, 94, 85, 89; sugarbeets harvested, 98, 92, 98, 97.
