Miller to Take SWCD Executive Role

Published: Friday, December 2, 2022

A Person You Should Know

Melinda Miller is this week's "Person You Should Know." As the new executive director of the Kosciusko County Soil and Water Conservation District, she replaces Darci Zolman, who is retiring at year end.

Miller graduated from Tippecanoe Valley High School, and currently resides in a country neighborhood about 20 minutes south of Warsaw.

Family: Husband, Alex; Golden Retriever, Sunny; and cat, Nona

My job: I am the executive director (starting Jan. 1) of Kosciusko County Soil and Water Conservation District. I do all the behind-the-scenes duties in the office to make sure it stays running efficiently. I do the bookkeeping, give the updates on our bank accounts during the board meetings, and all of the end-of-the-year taxes/ financials. I will do all of the grant writing, tracking and reporting once our district begins another grant cycle. I am also responsible for preparing and planning the annual meeting, and for coordinating our annual tree sale in the spring.

My mentor: I consider my friends and family as mentors. They are conscientious, hard-working people that I am blessed to have in my life.

My mission in life: I value community and relationships; people are not meant to be alone. My mission is to build and nurture my personal and professional relationships.

Hobbies: Disc golfing with my husband, walking my dog in local nature trails, camping, traveling, spending time with friends and family

Dream job as a child: My dream job as a child was everchanging, but for a long time, throughout elementary school, I wanted to be a veterinarian.
