Grandma's Best Sugar Cookies

Published: Friday, December 2, 2022

Cookies:

½ c. butter, softened

1 ½ c. granulated sugar

2 large eggs, at room temperature

1 c. sour cream, at room temperature

1 tsp. vanilla extract

2 ¾ c. all-purpose flour

½ tsp. baking soda

½ tsp. baking powder

½ tsp. salt

Vanilla Frosting:

½ c. unsalted butter, at room temperature

4 c. powdered sugar, sifted

¼ tsp. salt

¼ c. heavy cream

2 tsp. vanilla extract

Red and green sprinkles (optional)

Cream together butter and sugar in a large bowl. Add in eggs, sour cream and vanilla. Pour in flour, baking soda, powder and salt and mix until fully combined. Cover bowl with saran wrap, place in fridge, and let chill for 1 hour.

Preheat oven to 350°. Line a baking sheet with a silicone mat or parchment paper. Scoop dough onto prepared baking sheet using a cookie scoop. Bake for 8-10 minutes. (Time will depend on cookie size—if using a large cookie scoop, bake about 14 minutes.)

Remove from oven and let rest for 2 minutes on the cookie sheet before transferring them to a cooling rack. Let cookies cool completely before frosting.

Using a stand mixer or hand mixer, place butter in bowl and beat butter for 60 seconds. Beat in powdered sugar and salt slowly. Slowly pour in heavy cream and vanilla and beat until well combined and fluffy. Frost cookies, top with sprinkles, if desired. —3 dozen cookies.
