Champion Beef Sells for $5,360 in Miami Co.

The Miami County 4-H Fair auction took place last Saturday. A total of 14 hogs were donated to Miami County Helping Hands and six hogs were donated to Macy Food Pantry. There was a total of $1,795 donated to Sara Herrell Memorial Scholarship. The auction raked in $104,815 for 4-H members.
Blake Sadowsky of Peru exhibited the grand champion beef steer. The 1,360-pound animal sold for $5,360. Buyers included Casey Ott of Dilling Group, Nutrien Ag Solutions, Beacon Credit Union, New Holland Logansport, First Farmers Bank and Trust, Lyndal and Beth Miller family, Michael and Carmen Kuhn, Caleb and Megan Sadowsky, CS Transport, IMI, Mindy Johnson, Kendel Hattery family, Troxell Equipment, Dobbs Legal Group and Mooney Outdoor Enterprises.
Sixteen beef and dairy steers entered the auction ring and totaled $34,030.
The swine sale kicked off with the grand champion barrow. Kaelyn Shircliff of Peru sold the Yorkshire for $1,800. The hog weighed in at 284 pounds. Edward Jones Investments, Don and Patty Willson, Ed and Joyce Willson, Play Pros Playground Distributors, Scot Shircliff, and Allen and Jami Willson purchased the animal.
Laina Kling of Peru sold the reserve champion barrow. The pig weighed 270 pounds and sold for $1,330. Buyers included Central Indiana Ethanol, Josh Wogoman of Agrigold, Kokomo Grain Co., Nutrien Ag Solutions, Kameron and Hayley Donaldson, Troxell Equipment, Ed Burns and Sons Trucking, Family Farm and Home, and Beacon Credit Union.
The auction saw 67 swine lots with a total of $48,870.
The grand champion market lamb was shown by Madisyn Carrico of Peru. The lamb weighed 112 pounds and brought $1,080. Contributing to that price was Keith Miller Excavating, Family Farm and Home, Tanner Schwartz of Premier Crop Insurance, Mindy Johnson, Kokomo Grain Co., Mooney Outdoor Enterprises and Ed Burns and Sons Trucking. Only one sheep lot entered the sale.
In the goat sale, the grand champion Boer market wether sold for $400. Sophia McKinley of Kokomo presented the animal. Lester Miller Auctioneer and Samantha Jones purchased the goat.
The grand champion dairy goat was shown by Anna Eckrote of Akron. She chose to take the grand champion to State Fair.
Holly Richardson of Denver sold her grand champion meat pen of rabbits for $505. Buyers were Mike and Susan Morris of Morris Farms, Beacon Credit Union, IMI, Kameron and Hayley Donaldson, Family Farm and Home, Kendel Hattery family and Troxell Equipment.
The grand champion fryer rabbit was exhibited by Abby Richardson of Denver. The rabbit brought $550. Shanna Hughes of JMS, Gold Medal Awards, Beacon Credit Union, IMI, Makinzie France 2019, Family Farm and Home, Merritt Farms, Kendel Hattery family, Troxell Equipment and Philip and Amy Weaver contributed to the price.
Nine rabbits sold at the auction. The total came to $2,410.
Other species subtotals include: 6 beef and dairy beef feeders, $4,865; 3 cow milk lots, $810; 6 goat milk lots, $2,570; and 16 poultry, $4,345.
