Farm Bill Is Topic of Farm Show Session

Bob White, director of national government relations with Indiana Farm Bureau, will discuss the 2018 Farm Bill during a luncheon program at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 17 at the Fort Wayne Farm Show. He will speak in Appleseed Room B.

During the three-day show, attendees will be able to attend daily educational seminars which are sponsored by Northeastern Indiana Soil and Water Conservation Districts and Purdue Cooperative Extension Service.

All seminars will take place in the Appleseed Room A, unless noted otherwise.

Topics and speakers on Jan. 16 include:

• 10 a.m.—"Grain Market Outlook," Jon Cavanaugh, marketing director, Central States Enterprises Inc.; David Kohli, adjunct professor, Ivy Tech; Ryan Martin, chief meteorologist, Hoosier Ag Today; and Rob Winters, farm director, News/Talk 1190-WOWO.

• 12:30 p.m.—"Certified Livestock Producer Advantages," Kimmi Devaney, agriculture marketing director, Indiana State Department of Agriculture.

• 1:30 p.m.—(3 programs) "Soil Sampling: What Does It Mean?" Jamie Bultemeier, agronomist and director of corporate sales, A&L Labs; "Precision Manure Application," James Wolff, Extension educator, Allen County; and "Dicamba Regulations," Purdue Extension.

Jan. 17 topics and speakers include:

• 10 a.m.—"Science of GMOs," Peter Goldsbrough, professor at Purdue University, Department of Botany and Plant Pathology.

• 11:30 a.m.—"Farm Bill Update," Bob White, Director of National Government Relations, Indiana Farm Bureau Inc. Lunches will be available to the first 150 people on a first come, first serve basis.

• 1:30 p.m.—(2 programs) "Weather Outlook," Ryan Martin, chief meteorologist, Hoosier Ag Today; "Grain and Livestock Market Outlook," Chris Hurt, agricultural economist, Purdue University.

• 3:30 p.m.—(2 programs) "Termination of Cover Crops and Weeds," Bill Johnson, professor of weed science, Purdue University; "Dicamba Regulations," Purdue Extension.

On Jan. 18, the topics and speakers include:

• 9:30 a.m.—"Grain and Livestock Market Outlook," Lon Swanson, agricultural consultant, Wells Fargo Investments.

• 11 a.m.—"Climate and Weather Impacts to Ag," Greg Shoup, meteorologist, News Channel 15.

• 1 p.m.—"Leases, Loans and Lending," James Mintert, director, Purdue Center for Commercial Ag.

The 2018 Fort Wayne Farm Show will be held Jan. 16-18 at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum, 4000 Parnell Ave., Fort Wayne. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 16, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Jan. 17, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 18. Admission is free, but parking is $5.
