Meeting Explores Milk Processing Facility

Published: Friday, May 26, 2017

Purdue University Extension educators in LaGrange, Elkhart and DeKalb counties are facilitating discussions on developing a local goat and cow milk processing facility. The area has a large number of small farms, and developing a processing and marketing channel could be an economic opportunity to benefit them.

The next meeting will be May 31 at 7 p.m. in the Community Bldg. at the LaGrange County 4-H Fairgrounds in LaGrange. At this meeting, Matt Hauschild from the Indiana Board of Animal Health will be discussing regulatory issues for small dairy processing facilities.

The meeting is open to anyone interested in exploring possibilities for local goat and cow milk processing. There is no charge and preregistration is not required. Questions may be directed to Steve Engleking, LaGrange County educator at 260/499-6334 or sengleking@purdue.edu. Also Elysia Rodgers, DeKalb County Extension educator at 260/925-2562, and Robert Kelly, Elkhart County Extension educator, at 574/533-0554.
