Area Holstein Members Earn Top Awards

Members of the Indiana Holstein Assn. gathered last Saturday in Indianapolis for the association's annual meeting. The meeting included the selection of new board members, awards and business.

Receiving the Honorary Lifetime Member award was Robert Wiley of Lebanon. Ted and Linda Finke of Hope were named Master Breeders.

Three different category of BAA awards were given to the top five farms in each category. In the 10 to 50 head category, Bruce Gingerich of Millersburg was at the top with a BAA of 113.3 on 30 head. Paul Enkleking of Greenfield placed second with a BAA of 112.6 on 40 head. Rich Nisen of Leesburg placed third with a BAA of 111.7; Lookwell Farms of Elkhart had a BAA of 111.2 on 23 head; and Bertschland Farms of Cambridge City placed fifth with a BAA of 111.0 on 17 head.

In the 51 to 99 head, Paul Farms of Goshen earned a 108.2 BAA on 61 head; Uria, Matthew and Joseph Wagler of Rushville had a BAA of 107.5 on 66 head; and Darren Schwoeppe was third with a BAA of 107.3 on 91 head. Hoagland's Ronald and Eric Fuhrmann had a BAA of 107.1 on 70 head, and Richard Thomas of Middlebury had a score of 106.9 on 90 head.

In the 100 head and above category, Myron and Michael Oesch's herd of 104 head located in Middlebury had a BAA of 106.8; Kuehnert Dairy of Fort Wayne had a BAA of 106.3 on 268 head; Oneeda Farms of Syrcuse had a score of 105.8 on 159 head; Rauscher Farms of Huntingburg had a BAA of 104.3 on 183 head; and Brand Farms of Waterloo scored a BAA of 103.1 on 318 head.

Progressive breeder award winners included Darrell Richard of Goshen, Dennis Paulus of Elkhart, Kuehnert Dairy of Fort Wayne, Oneeda Farms of Syracuse, and Steven Landis of Goshen.

Recipients of the Progressive genetics herd awards were given to Darrell Richard of Goshen, Rauscher Farms of Huntingburg, Nor-Bert Farms of Bremen, and William and Susan Gamble of New Carlisle.

Indiana's Gold Medal Dam award was awarded to Lynne Richard of Goshen and the Dame of Merit award was awarded to Troxel Dairy of Hanna.

Junior Holstein members also met last Saturday where they elected a new board and announced award winners. Sabra Jackson of Frankfort was the 2016 recipient of the Derek Blough Heart and Soul award.
