Noah Hayden Exhibits Top Steer at Lake County Fair

The Lake County 4-H livestock auction was held Aug. 15 at the fairgrounds in Crown Point.

Emma Millard led the way in the lamb sale, earning $6 per pound for her grand champion market lamb. The buyer, Kraft Auction Service, paid $6 per pound for the 127-pound wether. The reserve champion market lamb was shown by Kaylee Jensen, who earned $5.50 per pound from Lake County Farm Bureau Co-op. 

Cole Clinton received $4 per pound from Hanford Packing Co. for the grand champion lamb carcass. Meghan McGee saw her reserve champion lamb carcass  bring $3.50 per pound, courtesy of Hanford Packing Co.

In beef, Noah Hayden and Zach Hayden, both of Lowell, showed the grand and reserve champion steers, respectively. Noah sold his steer to Dave Steiner of Ceres Solutions.

Conner Hayden exhibited the grand champion beef carcass and was rewarded for his efforts when James Teibel purchased his project for $3.75 per pound.

Noah Hayden was next, selling his reserve champion beef carcass for $2 per pound to Lake County Farm Bureau.

Steven Severin sold his 1,500-pound champion dairy market steer and champion rate of gain winner for $1.50 per pound to the Lake County Farm Bureau Co-op.

In swine, Jacob Covaciu's grand champion barrow led the way in the barrow show, earning $4 per pound from Kraft Auction Service. In the reserve champion slot, Noah Hayden received $3.50 per pound for the reserve champion barrow from Bob Little and Mathew VanDeursen/Pioneer Seeds and Agrilogic Crop Insurance.

For $2.25 per pound, Mackenzie Hein sold her grand champion market gilt to Jeff McIntire.

Celes Solutions purchased Noah Hayden's grand champion breeding gilt for $1.50 per pound. Noah also sold the reserve champion breeding gilt for $1.50 per pound to Crown Feed & Supply.

Andrew Siwinski exhibited the grand champion swine carcass, which he sold for $2.50 per pound to a support group consisting of friends and family. Drew Wheeler sold the reserve champion carcass for $2 per pound to Hanford Packing Co.

In the milk sale, Robert Corning sold milk from his champion senior Holstein for $350 to a support group consisting of friends and family. Milk from Nicklis Cross's reserve champion senior Holstein was a bit pricier, going to $1,100 to friends and supporters.

In goats, Aaron DuBord received $700 for his grand champion Boer wether, courtesy of AMS Motor Service. The reserve champion exhibitor, Lauren Yates, sold her Boer goat for $225 to Kraft Auction Service. 

At $200, Kraft Auction Service had the high bid on Belle Cochran's grand champion dairy wether. Kraft also was the winning bidder for Riley Waterman's reserve champion dairy wether, paying $200. 

Emily Reed won grand champion with her senior doe and sold a half-gallon of milk for $200 to Crown Feed & Supply. Sarah Piepho received $100 for milk from the reserve champion senior doe. The buyer was Diane Kozlowski of McColly Real Estate. 

In rabbits, Coralie Humbert received $375 for the champion meat pen from Zakutanksky Farms. Humbert also had the champion single fryer, selling it for $100 to Old Iron Depot.

In poultry, Allison Bewick sold the grand champion market chicken (dressed) to Dr. Keary Bewick for $100.

The winner in the duck show was Andi Nichols, who received $50 for her grand champion (dressed) from Keith Schroeder and Carol Wilson. Tristen Sepko earned $75 from councilman Edgar Corns for the reserve champion market chickens (dressed). 

In turkeys, Dakota Sepko picked up $125 for the reserve champions (dressed). J&R Lock Service was the buyer. Emily Sepko was next with her reserve champ market turkeys (dressed). Gleaners Life Insurance had the high bid at $100.

In other poultry sales, Liz Sever sold the reserve champion dressed roasters for $100 to Hulsey Electric. Heather Bayne sold the reserve champion dressed market ducks for $75 to Gleaners Life Insurance. The same buyer purchased the reserve champion dressed broilers from Dakota Sepko for $50.
