Bachelor's Calf Leads Steuben 4-H Auction

The Steuben County 4-H Fair roped in $216,230.04 this Thursday on 257 lots. This is a decrease from last years's $236,057.52 on 241 lots.

Jaycee Bachelor of Millgrove Twp. corralled an incredible $8,525 ($24.15 per pound) for her grand champion started calf. (see list end of article).

Chase Bachelor of Millgrove Twp. sold this year's reserve grand champion started calf for $1,150 ($2.72 per pound) to Andrews and Shipe LLC. These two champions helped to raise the species subtotal to $48,990.

This year's grand champion beef steer belongs to Harper Henney of Steuben Twp. The steer is State Fair bound.

Isaac Shively of Hillsdale Twp. sold this year's reserve grand champion beef steer for $3,750 ($2.75 per pound). (see list). With the help of this champion, the species subtotal for beef reached $22,375.

This year's grand champion beef feeder belongs to Abbey Fisher of Steuben Twp. The calf is going to the State Fair. Also heading to the State Fair is the reserve grand champion beef feeder, owned by Harper Henney of Steuben Twp. Even without these champions, the beef feeder species subtotal reached $3,625.

Sarah Wise of Scott Twp. garnered $2,450 ($1.74 per pound) for her grand champion dairy steer from Alliance Agriculture, Erie Haven and Stonestreet Quary.

Otsego Twp. 4-H'er Hannah Buell took home $5,775 ($4.18 per pound) for her reserve grand champion dairy steer. The steer sold to Stoy Farms, Treeann Trucking Inc., Tri-State Line-X, S and B Kessler, Auburn Concrete Products, Farmers State Bank, Word Livestock, King Concrete and Liechty Farm Equipment Kenn-Feld Group.

The species subtotal reached $28,125 with the help of these champions.

Jade Ice of Scott Twp. owns this year's grand and reserve grand champion dairy feeders. The grand champion is State Fair bound, while the reserve grand champion sold for $1,200 ($1.95 per pound) to Stoy Farms and Renovations Inc. by Wagler.

Cameron Penick of Steuben Twp. took home $2,575 ($9.10 per pound) for his grand champion market barrow. (see list).

Jade Ice of Scott Twp. sold her grand champion gilt for $750 ($2.89 per pound) to Perkins Twin Creek Farm, Hog Hill, Myers Construction, Bruce and Adam Blonde Farms, and King Concrete.

The reserve grand champion gilt belonged to Dylan Oberlin of Steuben Twp. He corralled $400 ($1.56 per pound) from Alliance Agriculture, Jack Conrad and King Concrete. These champions helped to raise the species subtotal to $36,470.

Jordan Baker of Scott Twp. sold his supreme grand champion goat for $1,375 to Stroh Farm Supply, Stroh Fix-It Shop, Mark and Julie Ridenour, Metalx, P and G Real Investments LLC, Rapid Rental, Douglas J Adams, Lonsbury Garage LLC, Powerscreen of Indiana, Washler Inc., Advance Auto, Bonnie Lewis, Jason Baker, and Liechty Farm Equipment Kenn-Feld Group.

Riley Clausen of Jamestown Twp. sold her grand champion dairy goat to Bull Pen Café for $450.

Jacqueline Weisenfelder of Fremont Twp. garnered $575 for her reserve grand champion dairy goat from Beacon Credit Union, Hal-Mark Sales and Rental Division of K, Farmers State Bank, Funk family and General Aluminum.

Hallie Shrewsburg of Clear Lake Twp. sold her grand champion pygmy goat to Bill's Profession Towing and Repair for $275.

Salem Twp. 4-H'er Cody Close took home $225 from Ashley Hudson Village Foods for his reserve grand champion pygmy goat. With the help of these champions, the goat species subtotal reached $18,605.

Also sold at the fair were baskets of goat milk and cheese. Francesca Clifton of Richland Twp. sold the grand champion goat milk and cheese for $150 to Hal-Mark Sales and Rental Division of K.

The reserve grand champion goat milk and cheese was sold by Gage Clifton of Richland Twp. for $125 to Andrews and Shipe LLC and Ed and Susan Ralston and Jacob Insurance Service LLC. These champions helped to raise the goat milk and cheese subtotal to $1,675.

Harper Henney of Steuben Twp. has this year's grand champion sheep, which is heading to the State Fair.

Ally Lorntz of Jackson Twp. sold her reserve grand champion sheep for $1,200 ($8.89 per pound) to Pranger Enterprises, Shiery Animal Clinic, Stonestreet Quary, Erie Haven, Gerig Trucking and Leasing, Orland Community Elevator, Liechty Farm Equipment Kenn-Feld Group, Kain Tool Inc. and Bunge North America. With the help of this champion, the species subtotal reached $10,500.

Exhibitors sold baskets of food in place of showing their poultry lots in the arena. The exhibitors participated in a quiz bowl, with the highest scoring competitors claiming the championship titles.

Grand champion Joanna Claudy of Salem Twp. sold her basket for $325 to Farmers State Bank, Rural King, Everidge Motor Sales, Pfafman Brothers, Stroh Pizza, and Stroh Farm Supply.

John Claudy of Salem Twp. was the reserve grand champion. He garnered $175 for his basket from Hal-Mark Sales and Rental Division of K.

Michael Fischer of Pleasant Twp. took home $150 for his basket from the Funk Family with his grand champion title.

Grand champion Sara Hostetler of Pleasant Twp. sold her basket for $250 to Irving Sand and Gravel. With these champions, the poultry species subtotal reached $10,220.

Zacchaeus Creager of Pleasant Twp. corralled $225 for his grand champion fryer rabbit from Harold Chevrolet and First Federal Savings Bank of Angola.

The reserve grand champion fryer belonged to Kaylyn Allshouse of Pleasant Twp. She sold her rabbit to Bob Allshouse, Hal-Mark Sales and Rental Division of K, and Bobby and LeAnn Boots for $450.

Hunter Allen of Salem Twp. sold his grand champion roaster rabbit for $450 to LaKota Trailers, Miller Poultry, Farmers State Bank, Ronnie and Sherry Holiday, and Booth Farms.

Steuben Twp. 4-H'er Seth Glasscock sold his reserve grand champion roaster for $200 to Stoy Farms and First Federal Savings Bank of Angola.
